Aluminum Tapered Seat Emergency Valve
Betts 6″x4″ Straight Air Emergency Valves
- Air Operated
- Stainless Trim
- Teflon Encapsulated Seals
Betts High Flow Emergency valves provide increased flow rates compared to 4-inch emergency valves. These valves feature Teflon-encapsulated seals. This is for compatibility with a wide range of products and a special lift mechanism for smooth operation. The body consists of aluminum with stainless-steel trim. The shear section tested per TTMA RP84 and meets 49CFR178.345-8.
Aluminum Internal Air (4-inch Air Cylinder) – Straight
Betts internal air emergency valve meets HM183 requirements for an internal self-closing stop valve. The aluminum body incorporates a shear section compliant with 49CFR178.345-8 and tested per TTMA RP 84. The 1/8-inch NPT air inlet shears and closes the valve during an under-ride accident. Additionally, an installed fusible plug releases air pressure if temperatures exceed 212°F.
The valves use Teflon® encapsulated seals for compatibility with a wide range of products. Other seal options are also available. Furthermore, the internal air cylinder saves space on the exterior of the valve, providing maximum clearance for piping. In addition, the valve features a stainless-steel jackscrew, enabling manual operation in the event of an air system failure.
Maximum Operating Pressure
The Maximum Operating Pressure is the maximum tank pressure that the valve can open against, given a specific airline pressure. For example, the maximum operating pressure is:
- 21 PSI with 80 PSI line pressure
- 25 PSI with 100 PSI line pressure
- Valve MAWP 35 PSI (2.4 bar)
- minimum bursting pressure 140 PSI (9.7 bar)
In the event of an under-ride accident, the 1/8-inch NPT air inlet shears and closes the valve, while a fusible plug releases air pressure if temperatures exceed 212°F.
The fusible plug melts at 212°F [100°C]. In case of higher temperatures, it is crucial to relocate the fusible plug to isolate it from heat, ensuring the valve’s proper functioning and safety.
Caution:Â Ensure proper installation and maintenance of the valve. Never bottom load through the emergency valve without first opening the valve. Failure to do so may result in damage to the tank and/or valve.
