Betts Air Emergency Valves
Betts 6″ x 4″ 90 Air Emergency Valves
Internal Air Emergency Valve
The Betts internal air emergency valve not only meets HM183 requirements for an internal self-closing stop valve. Also features an aluminum body with a shear section that complies with the requirements of 49CFR178.345-8. It will undergo testing per TTMA RP 84.
Additionally, the design incorporates a 1/8-inch NPT air inlet to shear and close the valve during an under-ride accident, along with a fusible plug to release air pressure if temperatures exceed 212°F.
Furthermore, the valve utilizes Teflon® encapsulated seals, offering compatibility with a wide range of products. Multiple seal options are also available. Moreover, the internal air cylinder conserves exterior space on the valve, ensuring maximum clearance for piping. Finally, a stainless-steel jackscrew equips the valve for manual operation in case of an air system failure.
Maximum Operating Pressure
The Maximum Operating Pressure defines the maximum tank pressure that the valve can open against when subjected to a specific airline pressure. Maximum Operating Pressure is 21 PSI with 80 PSI line pressure and 25 PSI with 100 PSI line pressure. The Valve MAWP is 35 PSI [2.4 bar] and the Minimum Bursting Pressure is 140 PSI [9.7 bar].
The fusible plug melts at 212°F [100°C]. To isolate the fusible from heat, you must relocate the fusible plug if the valve is exposed to higher temperatures.
Caution: The valve must be properly installed and maintained. Never bottom load through the emergency valve without first opening the valve. Failure to do so may result in damage to the tank and/or valve.
External Air Emergency Valve
- Air Operated
- Stainless Trim
- Teflon Encapsulated Seals
Betts 6″ x 4″ 90 Air High Flow Emergency Valves provide increased flow rates compared to 4-inch emergency valves. Valves feature Teflon encapsulated seals for compatibility with a wide range of products and a special lift mechanism for smooth operation. Additionally, they construct the body from aluminum with stainless steel trim. Furthermore, the shear section undergoes testing per TTMA RP84 and complies with 49CFR178.345-8.
To prevent gasoline or other products from contaminating the air supply, we equip air-operated valves with an external air cylinder. Furthermore, the air cylinder features hard-coated aluminum and a polished stainless-steel shaft. Additionally, it includes a 1/8-inch NPT port for air connection and comes with an installed fusible plug.
Available in Long-Radius and Short-Radius elbows. Choose the Long-Radius for maximum flow or opt for the Short-Radius when clearance for piping is restricted.
